ABEOKUTA- Ogun State
Police Command has
paraded six members
of a kidnapping gang
for allegedly abducting
an Indian, identified as
Bibhas Bhanjdes in
Abeokuta, the state
capital.
The command also
paraded 19 other
suspects for offences
ranging from armed
robbery to murder,
possession of fake
currency, unlawful
possession of firearms
and cultism.
Vanguard gathered
that the victim of the
kidnap, General
Manager of Midgal
Nigeria Plc, Abeokuta,
was picked alongside
his driver last week
and was later released
after a N3 million
ransom was allegedly
collected by the
suspects one week
after.
The state
commissioner of police,
Nicholas Nkedeme who
paraded the suspects,
at the weekend
named the suspected
kidnappers as
Olanrewaju Aremu,
Chidi Odunmber, Ejike
Mbaeze, Ayo Ifejie,
Ndubuisi Nwafor and
John Fadoungbo.
Nkedeme said a sum
of two million and
seventy two thousand
naira (N2,072,000.00),
one locally made pistol,
one live ammunition,
two laptops and
mobile phones as well
as the victim's car were
recovered from the
suspects.
Speaking with
newsmen, the
suspected gang leader,
Olanrewaju Aremu,
who worked in the
same company with
the Indian, said he
initiated the
kidnapping because of
the poor wage paid
him by the company
which worsened his
living condition.
On the 19 other
arrested suspects, the
police boss said all the
suspects arrested for
offences ranging from
armed robbery to
murder, fake currency,
unlawful possession of
firearms and cultism
would be prosecuted in
court
